A Fresh Start Through Local Support
Maria G., Resident of District 10
In early 2020, when the pandemic hit, I was laid off from my hospitality job of seven years. Like many others in our community, I found myself navigating unfamiliar territory—unemployment lines, uncertainty, and a growing fear about the future.
For months, I applied to countless jobs without any luck. The longer I waited, the harder it was to stay hopeful. Then I heard about a local workforce development program featured on the Citizens for Apusczek website. It offered free training in administrative support, resume-building workshops, and even one-on-one career coaching.
I enrolled in the program with cautious optimism. What I found was more than just training—I found encouragement, accountability, and a genuine sense of support from my community. Within three months, I completed my training and was connected to a local nonprofit seeking administrative help. I got the job.
Today, I’m employed full-time in a field I’m proud of, with a clear career path ahead of me. More importantly, I’ve regained my confidence. Programs like this don’t just offer skills—they offer hope.
Thank you, Citizens for Apusczek, for helping me find my footing again. You reminded me that I wasn’t alone—and that my story still had room to grow.
